Honda CivicX Turbo Inlet Pipe Final Design – Design Pt. 4

It’s been a few months since our last update on the Turbo Inlet Pipe for the 10th generation Honda Civic 1.5T. Well, count your lucky stars because today we have a huge update for you!!!

The first Turbo Inlet Pipe for your Civic has been installed and it looks awesome!

We’ve stared at our CAD model for countless hours and we’ve installed many 3D printed prototypes, check that out here, but nothing compares to the actual cast Turbo Inlet Pipe mounted in the engine bay of our 2018 SI.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this thing is HUGE! Literally. It’s amazing that it actually fits but it does and with no major modifications required under the hood. Check out the actual size comparison below just to get a grasp on how much bigger it is over the OEM unit.

Essentially every dimension that could be increased to improve airflow has been increased. Despite the drastic size increase, the team at 27WON has been able to retain all the OEM features for emissions and boost control.

The journey to this point has not been without its challenges.

One of the most difficult parts of this project has been an aspect that has nothing to do with performance, fitment, or really anything that would affect the community.  This challenge has been manufacturing.

Due to the size and unique shape of the cast aluminum part, the setup to hold and machine the turbo inlet pipe proved to be quite daunting. A very intricate and creative fixture had to be created to complete the machining process accurately and consistently.

This fixture had to hold the cast aluminum part securely so the part would not move during machining and the fixture would not leave marks on the surface of the cast part. To hit those goals a proprietary cable clamp system was developed along with other unique clamping systems. Long story short, we’ve completed test runs with the fixture and verified its working flawlessly.

We wanted to share this with you so that you can see and understand the various steps and challenges that must be overcome to get a product like this to market. Many companies only share the end result and hide all the workings in the background. We believe that these details help you learn how we do what we do and bring you closer to the product and the 27WON brand.

Thanks for tuning in with 27WON Performance…we are sooooo close!

Let us know how it looks to you. Do you like the cast aluminum finish?
