11th Gen Civic & 5th Gen Integra Intake System Design Blog Pt 4

Come one come all and welcome to part 4 of our cold air intake design blog series for the 2022+ Honda civic and the 2023+ Acura Integra with the 1.5L turbocharged engine.

In blog #3, we started to share with you some details of this new CAI system. We mentioned what parts of the intake system will be getting an upgrade and showed you a few 3D prints and models of what the system will be looking like.

Today we are going to dive a bit deeper on the design and show you the trick parts that make up this kit.

To make this blog flow (just like our intake ;) we are going to start in the same place that air starts when it enters the engine, the inlet. For this intake we looked at all the things that OEM Honda did right and then worked on improving them. One of those things is the inlet for the airbox. It sits right at the front of the engine and is sealed on the top from the hood. This allows only outside ambient air to enter the intake and not any hot air in from the engine compartment. We kept that same inlet feature but made it bigger and smoother so that we can get more air in for better efficiency. Just like OEM, it bolts right up to the factory pick up points and does not get in the way of the hood closing.

Okay shameless plug here but this is as good as spot as any. This intake is going to work best when paired with our intake snorkel.

The larger snorkel will help bring in a large area of cool air from the outside of the grill into your intake and it's a piece that will really compliment this new intake. Heck, the snorkel itself out performs most of the other HVI and CAI systems that exist as is. So when you pair it with this beast of an intake you will get something you will really love. On a similar note, have you seen our turbo inlet pipe yet? If not, it’s another worthwhile mod to complete the full upgrade of your air intake system.

Okay plug over 🙂 Next we move onto the airbox.

This airbox is unique because of its full 360 degree design. The box is made with a very specific curve and shape to help promote air to enter all sides of the cone filter.

Most airboxes you see just dump the air into the top or one side of the box forcing air to only enter a portion of the filter. That reduces performance because all the air is trying to go in on the same side and the air has to fight for which molecule gets to go in first. This also shortens the service life of your air filter because you are only using one half or one quarter of the filter as opposed to the whole thing. This means a dirtier more restrictive air filter sooner.

Next of course is our tried and true high performance air filter. This 27WON designed cone filter is a synthetic dry filter which means you never have to worry about oiling it and it's fully serviceable so you can wash, rinse, and repeat for thousands of miles. It’s 4 ply construction and folded media means it does not compromise on keeping all the nasty out.

Ok, now lets wrap up the airbox convo with how we seal it all up. What you see here is something you again won’t find anywhere else.

We went with a large one piece shroud. It seals perfectly against the lower section of the airbox and gives you that easy filter access. We decided to make this piece with a larger foot-print so that it looks good when installed and covers up some of the dead space in your engine bay. Just like how our engine bay shrouds cleaned up the aesthetics of the open gaps on the sides and front of your 11th gen, our intake shroud will make your engine bay much more eye pleasing. It gets rid of that odd gap by the left front headlight and makes for a nice clean aesthetic. Our intent is to offer this piece in a textured finished with a nice matte black color.

That being said, we are working on a sick @$$ carbon fiber cover as well for those of us who, well, just freaking love how sick carbon fiber looks. Eyes open for that one later on.

This shroud is also going to have a spot for a subtle, but distinct 27WON logo. That’s what that round spot is for if you’re curious.

Finishing off this flagship intake is our 4 ply silicone with steps to grant seamless air movement into our billet Orange or Black MAF to ensure your fuel trims stay in check. All this leads to a system that helps keep IAT’s closer to ambient and adds a little bit of ram air effect at speed. This intake not only performs, but looks so much better than anything else on the market.

We are getting close to having all of the production parts for this system complete and ready for final approvals and that means we aim to have this available for purchase by the end of the year. Feel free to drop a comment below or send us a DM with any questions you may have. Till next time.
