Welcome to part 3 of our beat the heat series for our FK8. In this segment, we are going to attach a full set of Trackspec Motorsports hood vents on our stock hood in an effort to help evacuate as much hot air from our engine bay as we can. We have been experiencing some of the hottest ambient air temperatures that these cars have ever seen before and it’s getting more and more crucial that we keep targeting key areas of improvement to keep temperatures at a consistent level.
Read MoreAfter addressing oil temperature issues in PART 1 we turned our focus to boosted air temperatures. We are ditching the tiny OEM front mount intercooler for our upgraded high-performance Intercooler. OUR FMIC has been on the market for a few months. we want to dive into why this is the front mount intercooler you want for time attack style events.
Read MoreFrom the HPDE and track testing, we have done so far with our FK8 we (like many others) have found that engine heat management is a big issue on these new Civics. While they pack a punch, handle great, and deliver awesome power you can only get so much of that kick before the car starts to pull lots of power out to help keep things cool or in worst case enter a limp mode and basically nullify your current lap in an effort to keep the engine safe and from overheating.
Read MoreThe AIM Solo 2 is, it is a small and compact track day racing lap timer that automatically tells you your race track lap times with GPS technology. Using its built-in GPS the unit can automatically identify the finish line coordinates and automatically start sampling and displaying your lap times real world.

Read MoreIn order to be able to have the car optimized to handle the way we need it to along with fitting the various wheel and tire combinations that we run it is necessary to have the correct hard parts installed underneath the car. Today will be installing the first round of geometry correction pieces to allow us to do just that.
Read MoreMotul is a french company that has been around since the mid 1800’s and designs, test, and manufactures a variety of high performance fluids. For this first change we opted to switch to their engine oil and transmission fluid and then top it all off with a coolant additive for the track.
Read MoreThe next step in modifying our FK7 after we designed the exhaust and intake was to start tuning it so we could optimize our freshly installed parts. Even thought our full exhaust and intake system don’t require any tuning on a 2016+ Civic Hatchback Sport to work; we wanted to dial in the fueling and ignition maps to make squeeze out more hp out of our car. To accomplish this we turned to Doug over at Hondata.
Read MoreHaving only had the car for about a month we decided that our Type R needed an altitude adjustment. This was going to come in the form of a new wheel and tire package and with some help from our friend Joel at Whiteline North America.
Read MoreWhen the need came to lower our 10th gen SI in early 2018 the options where pretty slim. The car was less than a year old at the time. This meant that many companies were still very early in the development of parts or in some cases still had not even started. Because of this we didn’t have many choices.
Read MoreKnowing that our 2018 Civic SI will find itself on many road courses and race tracks over the coming years it was important that we started early to prepare the car to take the abuse. We knew we needed to add provisions and parts to make for a reliable car both on track and on the street. This was going to start with heat management. The quests to keep temps in control lead us to the guys at Siri Moto.
Read MoreFront wheel drive cars like our beloved Honda Civics have a tendency to understeer from the factory. Having already taken our 2018 Honda SI out on track after only owning it less than 500 miles we confirmed what we already knew. The Si could certainly use some help in this department.
Read MorePractically every new FWD manual transmission car from the factory (which isn’t many now, R.I.P. manual) comes with cable style shifters that connect the bottom of our shifter assembly to the top of our trans-axle. While they have flexibility in design and allow for a much tighter and compact package they do not offer the same kind of direct feel you will get with a hard linkage setup
Read MoreThere are two easy ways to get more performance out of a turbocharged car. Make it
easier for air to get in and easier for air to get out. On this new 10th generation Honda Civic the best
place to start is with a performance cold air intake and downpipe. Both of these items are readily
available, easy to install, and give some great bang for the buck.
