27WON Releases Exhaust System for 2022+ Civic EX and Touring Sedan
Just as the 10th-generation family of Civics had a variety of trims with different exhaust configurations, so does the 11th gen line-up of Civics.
Depending on whether you have a hatch or sedan, Si vs non-Si, NA 2.0L engine, or turbo 1.5L engine, that can make all the difference in what kind of exhaust options you have available for your car. Even the new elusive Type R has yet another different exhaust system.
Our goal is to have high-performance aftermarket options for the most popular of trims and today we expand on that.
We already offer an exhaust system for the 2022+ Civic Si sedan and 2023+ Acura Integra. It is the most popular system on the market and 27WON is the only company that can offer a full turbo back configuration for the biggest gains in horsepower and torque.
To keep things steamy we are pleased to announce the release of our front-pipe back system for the 11th generation Civic EX and Touring sedan with the 1.5L turbo engine.
Let’s dive into what makes this system unique and how we specifically tailored it for CVT owners. Check out our blog series for our Si/Integra exhaust. This new system has a lot in common and you can find many more details in that series than we will present here.
Up front, this system is identical to that of the 11th gen Si. 63.5mm diameter piping and stainless steel construction are the foundation. Mandrel bent piping and tri-bolt flanges make the system free-flowing and leak resistant. We provide stainless steel hardware for direct bolt-on fitment to ensure your installation is as painless and easy as can be.
Most of our time developing this system was on the axle back portion. We made special changes to minimize drone and deliver a pleasant-sounding system with the CVT automatic transmission. In the USA the EX and Touring sedan models come standard with the L15 engine and are only offered with a CVT transmission. If you want a manual you have to get either a Si or a Sport Touring hatch. While not the best choice from a performance perspective, the CVT is a popular choice for many Honda enthusiasts. It presents a significant challenge when trying to upgrade performance without adding Noise, Harshness, and Vibration (NVH). Since the CVT does not have set gears and instead operates on the one continuous gear notion the engine spends a lot of time in a very narrow RPM band. If you are not careful with your exhaust upgrade you might hate life as you reach for the Tylenol from all the buzzing.
We looked to our 10th gen systems for some inspiration and incorporated a similar Helmholtz resonator design into each muffler section.
These unique ‘dead’ tubes help dampen NVH at the frequencies that your CVT likes to spend a lot of time. Sticking with standard mufflers in the back “could” have worked but we were not happy with drone in the system. Our experience dictates people that buy CVT equipped cars tend to want to sacrifice less comfort for performance.
After lots of trial and error we got to a final design that we feel brings the best sound out the back with minimal NVH. Our unique exhaust design is still a direct bolt-on for the EX and Touring as it keeps with factory-style turn-downs that let you keep your OEM bumper trim. No cutting or replacement parts are needed. The unique shape gives it what we think is a very cool look out the rear for those behind you in traffic. It gives off an exotic look normally only seen on Lambos and Audis. I mean just look at it! 🙂
We are happy to bring a premium exhaust option for the CVT models and are looking forward to keeping our catalog growing for all things 11th gen Civic. Be sure and stay close to us as we grow our 11th gen Civic catalog.
