27WON Launches a Big Brake Kit for the Honda S2000 AP1 & AP2

If you are a loyal 27WON fan you might be like “these are the new school guys”. They are everything Honda and Acura of the new age. Yes, 2016+ is our focus but you know we got a soft spot for the JDM legends and the S2000 is just that. A true legend and the epitome of genuine Honda Performance and driving. So let's take a quick look at how we got here.

While our line-up of R&D cars is made up of 10th and 11th-generation Honda Civics, we do have a few personal toys in the garage as well. One of them is a Honda S2000. Driving this beautiful piece of engineering we couldn’t help but constantly think about how we could REDEFINE this classic? And the answer to that was with a Big Brake Kit, but not just a BBK for the front, but the WHOLE car.

High-quality material and machining, ease of service, quick brake pad changes, and ideal sizing are just some of the things to consider when making an aftermarket Big Brake Kit for performance needs.

Starting in the front you are met with a 330x28mm two-piece rotor. We tested a few different sizes before ultimately settling on this one. We realize that high off-set 17” wheels are very popular on the S2K chassis so we wanted to offer a kit that worked with that setup and would not require you to up the size of your wheels. The 330mm size allowed us to maximize braking surface area with a kit that works with 17” rims.

Hugging those nice gray iron rotors is a 4 piston fixed brake caliper. Again sizing was important here. We wanted to increase the size of the caliper to give us both more brake pad surface area and thermal capacity to help reject heat. We know that heat is the killer of all things performance so having a larger caliper that has more mass allows us to pull more heat away from the pad and rotor surface and allows us to have a more consistent braking experience. To make a bigger caliper is easy, but to make a bigger caliper that is not heavy is another thing.

It starts with a piece of forged aluminum. Using special tooling paths, unwanted weight is removed from the caliper without ever compromising on strength. Fitted to the inside are 4 stainless steel pistons in a staggered setup. The SS material ensures it can take the high temps the braking kit will see both off and on the track. The staggered design creates a much smoother braking feel and helps make sure the pads wear more evenly. This is important when you are using a much larger pad over stock.

Our team brought that same magic and consideration to the rear, but sized it appropriately for proper bias. The Honda S2000 is an extremely nimble and well-balanced car so it was important we didn’t upset that balance. A 304x22mm rotor encased in a smaller 4 piston caliper was selected to maintain this tranquility. The same high-grade aluminum and iron were used for all the components of the rear kit. The rear braking system however has one more important job in particular that the front does not. Parking Brake!!!

The team wants you to have the benefits of a rear Big Brake Kit without having to sacrifice the necessities and that is why we are excited to let you know that our rear BBK is the only kit on the market that retains the full functionality of your parking brake. That’s right, no need to wire in a complicated electronic parking brake or a 2nd small parking caliper for this kit. Get in the car and park just like its stock.
