BUILD STORY
Here you will find our log of updates, modifications, and announcements for this build.
In order to be able to have the car optimized to handle the way we need it to along with fitting the various wheel and tire combinations that we run it is necessary to have the correct hard parts installed underneath the car. Today will be installing the first round of geometry correction pieces to allow us to do just that.
Motul is a french company that has been around since the mid 1800’s and designs, test, and manufactures a variety of high performance fluids. For this first change we opted to switch to their engine oil and transmission fluid and then top it all off with a coolant additive for the track.
When the need came to lower our 10th gen SI in early 2018 the options where pretty slim. The car was less than a year old at the time. This meant that many companies were still very early in the development of parts or in some cases still had not even started. Because of this we didn’t have many choices.
Knowing that our 2018 Civic SI will find itself on many road courses and race tracks over the coming years it was important that we started early to prepare the car to take the abuse. We knew we needed to add provisions and parts to make for a reliable car both on track and on the street. This was going to start with heat management. The quests to keep temps in control lead us to the guys at Siri Moto.
Front wheel drive cars like our beloved Honda Civics have a tendency to understeer from the factory. Having already taken our 2018 Honda SI out on track after only owning it less than 500 miles we confirmed what we already knew. The Si could certainly use some help in this department.
Practically every new FWD manual transmission car from the factory (which isn’t many now, R.I.P. manual) comes with cable style shifters that connect the bottom of our shifter assembly to the top of our trans-axle. While they have flexibility in design and allow for a much tighter and compact package they do not offer the same kind of direct feel you will get with a hard linkage setup
The SPC lower ball joint comes in 3 different options. One size that is designed to add +1 degree of positive camber, 1 size that is designed to remove -1 degree of negative camber, and one that is neutral that is a direct OEM style replacement.
