Excellence vs Perfection: New release date for our L15 Front Mount Intercooler Kit

Perfectionism = “is the individual's belief that he or she must be perfect to be acceptable. Perfectionism is an attitude, not necessarily a behavior”

The pursuit of excellence = “is the desire to attain a goal of excellence, to achieve at a high level, to be the best that one can be”

Perfection versus excellence is something that I and the team are always struggling with. Do we keep driving towards perfection or do we stop with excellence? Is perfect even possible? Does perfect exist? How can we get as close to perfect as we reasonably can? How do we position ourselves to be as excellent as we can?

We ask these questions in all aspects of our business; From the parts we make, to the content, to the experience we give you guys. It’s just another cornerstone of our REDEFINE the aftermarket approach. Given that we recently came to a crossroads with our L15 front mount intercooler kit.

The core was carefully selected to match the engine. Our unique cast end tanks provided the best path for the air through the core. Our 4 ply wire-reinforced silicone is the strongest out there and the pipes were sized perfectly. Everything seemed in order and we were set to have a full system to market this month. However, it didn’t happen.

During the final quality checks of our kit, right before we started packaging them, we found a fitment marginality. Our engineering team made some adjustments to maximize the pipe size for flow on our cold pipe. When these changes were communicated to our production team it resulted in some of the pipe routings shifting a bit. The result is that  the cold pipe doesn’t have tolerances that we are comfortable with. Would it work? Yes. Is it perfect? No. Is it excellent? Not quite. So we go back to the drawing board to improve this; design adjustments, prototype fitment, production, quality assurance. It’ll take us a bit to get through this.

Goal was to get the largest cold pipe in the area while still having clearance to key components under the hood

Clearance needed to be optimized for both manual and CVT transmissions

We have decided to postpone the release of this product until after the start of the new year to allow us to get closer to perfect. We understand this is a bit frustrating for some of you as you have been waiting for this kit for a while. It’s super frustrating for us as well. But when we started this company we did so on certain principles. We decided to be different. We promised you that we wouldn’t deliver the same half-baked products that this Honda community had gotten used to.

While the team stays hard at work getting this ready for a successful launch next year, rest assured that we will continue to update everyone as we continue forward progress.

This will be worth the wait!

While we wait, let’s get some feedback. Take a look at these logo options and let us know which one you want to see?

P. S. Be on the lookout for our FC3 and Type R exhaust systems this winter as well as our our front strut tower bar, all set to launch in the next few months.
