11th Gen FMIC - Dyno Data - Design Blog Pt. 5

Here it is, the one you have all been waiting for. The blog that answers your most asked question about our 2022+ 1.5 turbo Front Mount Intercooler; “How much power does it make?”

We know that for some people that is the only question they are trying to answer when looking to purchase an intercooler. We also know that many of you want to understand the thought process of what goes into designing an intercooler that can redefine the aftermarket.

So if you simply just want to buy the most power inducing intercooler for the 11th-gen Civic and 5th-gen Integra then you are in the right place with 27WON.

If you want to dive deep to see the most thoughtfully designed and best flowing intercooler, then great news, you are still in the right place and read on below.

Before we dive into the specifics I want to take a moment to remind you how we got here. This is blog number 5 in our 2022+ Honda Civic FMIC Development Series which means we have four other reads on this project for ya. If you have not read them or you want a refresher on what makes our upcoming FMIC the absolute best, we made it easy by dropping some links to them below. So give those a read and join us back here in a few.

Ok, we’re back. So, did you read all the awesome bits on how we optimized the core and our dope @$$ end tanks? You did? Awesome! Now let's see how much power that this monster cooks us up.

For this write up, we follow the format of our power blog for our 11th gen GIN turbo upgrade. I am going to share with you the progression of our development from stock FMIC to final product. Some of these graphs will be identical to what you saw in previous blogs because we developed this Intercooler alongside our Gin turbo (we got lots of irons in the fire right now) but will be sure and highlight the differences the intercooler made. Now grab some popcorn and a seat and enjoy the ride.

100% Stock 2022 Civic Si

Start from the beginning. This is a 100% bone stock 2022 Honda Civic Si power graph. No tunes, no parts, no nothing. Just on the dyno and go. On 91 oct fuel on our Dynopack Hub Dyno we get a pretty flat torque curve at 195 wtq and 189 whp peak. This is our baseline. Decent numbers for a Civic, but we of course want more!!!!

2022 Civic Si with 27WON Exhaust (catted turbo back - TBE): Stock TUNE

Graph number 2 is the first step toward seeing what an upgraded FMIC can do. This is the same car as above, but all we did was add our 27WON turbo back exhaust system. Looking at the graph you can see upgrading to a high flowing catted DP and larger piping nets us some big gains. Over 30 ft lb of torque and over 20 whp. These are not numbers to take lightly.

Now that the engine can flow better on the exhaust side, let's see what happens when we swap in this 27WON Front Mount Intercooler.

2022 Civic Si with Exhaust (catted turbo back - TBE): Stock FMIC vs 27WON FMIC, Stock TUNE

For this next graph we are going to show you two plots. The blue lines are horsepower and the yellow lines are torque. The solid line is the 27WON FMIC and the dashed line is the OEM FMIC. Only difference between these two runs is the swapping of the intercooler. This is a otherwise stock Si with our turboback exhaust and our FMIC only, stock tune. In the graph, you can see that the 27WON FMIC makes both more power and torque everywhere after 3400 RPM all the way to redline. Now you might look at this and think “well it's not that much more” but what is even more impressive is that fact that it not only made more power, but did it on about 2psi less boost. This is because the air cools off so much better that the turbo does not have to work as hard to make the power. This in turn means the engine does not have to work as hard for the same results.

Let’s see what happens when we get a tune on the car and we optimize the FMIC for power.

For this last graph we take our 2022 Civic Si with our TBE and new FMIC and give it a custom tune for 91 oct fuel.

The graph again highlights the magic of tuning that we always talk about. Our drop in performance parts are amazing on their own and deliver the horsepower and torque gains, but power is left on the table with an OEM stock tune or basemap. Having the car professionally tuned for your new parts and driving habits is the key to making it come alive. Over 85 wtq of torque and 88 whp with just two 27WON bolt ons, a tuner, and some tuning. To be able to increase power output by almost 50% for a few grand is a great investment in your new 11th gen. This is a power increase that is undeniable!

The team here at 27WON is beyond stoked about these results. We took what was already the most powerful and capable FMIC for the 10th generation Honda Civic and made it even better for the 11th gen Civic. We are proud of this design. We know this FMIC is going to be the best one on the market for your Civic and Integra and we can’t wait to get it on showroom floors soon.

Be on the lookout for the release of this product later this year in limited quantities and a full release early next year and enjoy all the power it brings you.

If you want in on our early access program, drop a comment below, and you might be one of the lucky few to get one sooner rather than later.

As always thanks for following along and will catch you all next time.
